We all loved this man very much! We affectionately nick named him "Poppa Smurf" Those beautifl blue eyes and white beard were such a stand out feature. Only one stood out more, his sweet and loving heart for all he knew. You are forever in our hearts Jake.
Karyne and Kelley,
I was so very sad to see that Jay had passed away. I remember he was such a good man and I have such happy thoughts of him when I think back all those years ago. He taught me how to aim beebee guns at soda cans properly and I still find his advice useful today! :) I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I am thankful to have known him.
Sincerely,
Gretchen (Altenbach) Braasch

Dear Karyne,Kelley & Pets
We are so deeply saddened at the loss of our dear brother-in-law Jay. He fit so perfectly
into our family as a "brother" & neighbor.
Jay was a loving husband, Dad & "Daddy" to all of his pets. He was a wonderful, kindwide
& caring person and enjoyed life to it's fullest.
Karyne, you & Jay traveled far & wide and enjoyed so many fun interests & projects
together, you packed 100 years into those 50 + years.
Karyne, you were an exceptional, loving wife & nurse to Jay durinyou,g his illness.
Our very deepest sympathy to you, Kelley, Rusty & Macy.
Love,
Dave & Jacque
Back in our early camping days, Jake, Bob and I would set up early and wait for Karyne to join us after work....so many laughs, all the time...then Karyne and all of us would have beverages by the fire...
Karyne would be entertained by Jay Bob and I telling her the "getting-to-camp" and "setting-up" names Bob and I would be saying....Jay always joining in.
Many, many happy memories to cherish.
Thanks to my Uncle Jay and Aunt Karyne, I have been fortunate to travel to many, many beautiful places in the United States. We traveled in a van, pulling a trailer and did a lot of camping. This van was filled with up to 10 people at times and we all got along with one another. We travelled a bazillion miles in that van and Uncle Jay always brought us home safe and sound. I will be forever grateful for the memories I have spending with my Uncle Jay that took place all over this country.
My sincerest condolences to his family.
