Daniel James Blazewicz's Obituary
Daniel J. Blazewicz, a devoted father, loving partner, and gifted craftsman, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at the age of 76, at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin.
Born on February 4, 1949, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Daniel was the son of the late Edwin and Lorraine (Leavitt) Blazewicz. He was raised in a close-knit family and received his early education at St. Mary’s Catholic School, followed by Lance Junior High and Tremper High School in Kenosha. Daniel later continued his education at Gateway Technical College, where he refined the skills that would support his long and diligent career.
In his early years, Dan worked at Tyson’s Sporting Goods, where he nurtured a passion for outdoor life and community connection. He later joined American Brass in Kenosha, dedicating many years to the company until its closure. He concluded his professional journey as a maintenance technician at InSinkErator in Racine, where he remained until his well-earned retirement in 2011.
A man of many talents and deep curiosity, Daniel found great joy in crafting with his hands. An accomplished woodcarver, he created countless folk-art pieces, each infused with care and character, which he generously shared with family and friends. His love of nature was reflected in his passion for fishing and hunting, pursuits he enjoyed throughout his life. An avid motorcyclist, Dan delighted in exploring the winding back roads of Wisconsin, especially with his riding companion and brother-in-law, Ed.
Daniel's heart belonged above all to his family. He was the beloved partner of Tanya Bertram of Racine and the proud father of three children: Heather (Jim) Pigott of Winnetka, Illinois; Daniel Blazewicz (Katy Mijal) of Madison, Wisconsin; and Nicholas Blazewicz of Racine. His legacy continues through his five treasured grandchildren: Emma, Alex, and Ben Pigott, Clark Blazewicz, and Caylee Blazewicz, who brought immense pride and joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings, Sandra Strom of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Denise (Edward) Moczulewski of Las Vegas, Nevada, and David Blazewicz of Las Vegas, Nevada. He held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews and shared a unique bond with his loyal canine companion, Rascal, his “best buddy.”
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Ryan Young.
Those who knew Dan will remember him for his sharp wit, his ever-present sense of humor, and his deep knowledge of family history, a role he embraced as the cherished historian of the Blazewicz family. His stories, laughter, and spirit will remain with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Please join the family as they gather to honor and remember the life of Dan Blazewicz with stories, photos, and the love of community and family on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Stein Farms from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM followed by a private gathering for family.
