Dan was born the day after me and we started our life-long friendship in the nursery from day one. We lived a couple of houses from each other. Our mothers were good friends, so we hung out together even as infants. Often his mom was my mom and my mom was his. We went to the same school and spent every summer creating adventures which we reminisced about over the years. We had great times together and got in trouble occasionally as young boys do. We had a short gap in our friendship when Dan went to college, and I joined the marines. We eventually started our families, and I moved up north, but we always stayed in touch over the years. We had many hunting and fishing trips together. We spent hours talking on the phone catching up. We could talk to each other about everything going on in our lives, both good and bad.
He was totally devoted to his family and loved them unconditionally. My sympathy to his family for their great loss, especially Tanya, his soulmate and love of his life. About three weeks before he passed Dan, Tanya, my wife and I took a guided fishing trip on the Wisconsin river and had a wonderful time, and I will forever be thankful for that.
We knew the true meaning of best friends, and I feel blessed to have had him in my life for 76 years. I miss him every day and talk to him as I sit on my porch and watch wildlife in the woods. I loved Dan like a brother, my best friend of 76 years.
