Cynthia Kirkegaard Brusko Black's Obituary
Cynthia Kirkegaard Brusko Black went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2021. She was born in Racine, Wisconsin on November 15, 1948 to Paul and Erna Brusko.
At a young age she prayed with her father to trust Christ alone as her Savior. In that moment, her sins were forgiven, the Holy Spirit filled her, and she began her eternal life with God her Heavenly Father.
Cynthia was a 1966 graduate of Horlick High School. She then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City, and Carthage College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She taught school at Trautwein Elementary School and Bartlett Elementary School for five years. When she became a mother, she used her passion for teaching to raise her children at home.
Cynthia met her husband, Ken, at Racine Bible Church. They were married July 24, 1971 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer. They had three beloved children: Nathan Paul, Alissa Anna, and Amy Elizabeth.
She served in AWANA at Racine Bible Church using her fun-loving personality to share her love of Scripture and the gospel with young people. A yearly highlight in her work with youth at RBC was the Winter Retreat at Fort Wilderness in McNaughton, WI. As a cabin leader she balanced hilarity and laughter with mischievous fun to build relationships and influence many young women for the Lord. Cynthia also loved Bible Study Fellowship International, where she served as a discussion leader, encouraging women to love the Lord and study Scripture.
She is survived by her husband Ken Black, their children, Nathan (Veronica) Black, Alissa (Isaac) Miller, Amy Papillon, and her grandchildren Josiah and Elizabeth Black, Hudson, Lydia, and Cynthia Alyse Miller, and Judah and Tovi Papillon as well as many first cousins around the world whom she loved like siblings. The love between her and her seven grandchildren brought great joy and gladness. They all looked forward to spending time with her, reading books, doing art projects, frosting cookies, playing board games, and having her watch them swim for endless hours at the pool and Green Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Erna Brusko, her cousin Jeanine Rich, her nephew Christian Skoglund, and her beloved son-in-law, Drew Papillon.
Family and friends are invited to meet at Racine Bible Church 12505 Spring Street, Sturtevant, WI on Friday, January 22, between 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM for a visitation, with a worship service celebrating Cynthia’s life at 6:30 PM. This will also be livestreamed at www.racinebible.org/cynthiablack/
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to Racine Bible Church – Fort Memorization Scholarships or the Racine Women’s Bible Study Fellowship Chapter at https://www.bsfinternational.org/class/654
