Alice was my Grandmother on Earth. I remember her always treating me fairly and loving me with open arms. She was always there for us kids and had our best interest at heart. When I was a young boy I can remember going to the Circus down by Lake Michigan in Racine with her. That was the first circus I had ever been too and I can still picture certain moments in my mind it almost seems like yesterday. There were lots of different animals and people performing different amazing stunts under a huge tent and it stunk like giraffe poop. Lol. I have so many little memories as a child and young boy over the years. It's fun to relive that stuff. :) Growing up as a teenager she would come over and clean the house for us three males. Which would have been my dad, brother and I. She would cook us big breakfasts with lots of eggs and bacon. Cooking the bacon close to the eggs to get some of the bacon flavor on the eggs. Mmmmm good. She would cook us lunch too with sandwiches or something filling. Of course she would bring Grandpa Dutch (which would make 4 mouths) and we would set him up with a fishing pole and a chair on the far end of the pier to fish on eagle springs lake. In those days Dutch wasn't exactly a spring chicken and the Pierre was about 100 ft long, so we put him out there with food, fishing gear, refreshments, and a stick with an orange flag on one end of it. When Dutch needed something he could just hold up the flag and one of us young bunch could come running to the rescue. Most of the time he needed his line untangled or wanted us to refresh his bucket with water which was usually either full or half full of bluegills all depending of course on the season and weather or not his line was tangeled. When it was time for grandma to go after about 4 or 5 hrs grandma had done 4 loads of laundry, cooked breakfast and lunch for 6 people, cleaned up after 5 or 6 people and completely cleaned the upper and lower portions of the house. Let me tell you now, that's a hard working woman if I ever met one. Find me one like that today? Well I think I found one anyways.... As an older man she was always there for me in a lot of ways by doing things for me like taking me out or to the fireside for my birthday, cooking for me, giving me gifts/love/hugs and warm intentions. I also remember growing up her serving the community and giving back by working in nursing homes and volunteering her time. Although no one is perfect she was always a good doer in my eyes and from a child to a man she brought much joy to my life. It makes me sad we can't hold hands or hug with arms open wide on this day, but we see her off to a better world and eternal sunshine. We shared so many great memories I can still relive and my love for her has only grown since she past. I love you Grandma may you rest in peace until we meet again. Love your Grandson Matthew Blankman
