Wanda Kay Cooper's Obituary
Racine – Wanda Kay Cooper, 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024.
Kay was born to the late Charles and Bonnie (nee Colbert) Cooper on February 10, 1954, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She worked as a Certified Central Supply Technician. Kay worked in the Endoscopy Procedural Department at Ascension All Saints in Racine until the time of her retirement.
Kay was a devoted and cherished member of Grace Church in Racine. She was known for her unwavering dedication to the choir and her active participation in the Mom and Tots program. Her love for God was evident in every aspect of her life, particularly in her involvement with Prison Fellowship, where she offered hope and encouragement to those in need.
Kay’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her church, as she proudly served as a nanny for two beloved families. She cherished her 'kids'; Matt, Ted, and Nicci. Kay was very proud of the adults each of them became. She had an affection for her chihuahua, Tyrone, and cat, Tigger.
In her quiet moments, Wanda found solace in her favorite films—The Passion, Places in the Heart, and Fried Green Tomatoes—which reflected her deep empathy and love for heartfelt stories. Her favorite book of the Bible was Philippians, and her favorite verse was Joshua 24:14: “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.”
Kay’s life was a testament to her faith and love for others. She will be deeply missed by her church family, her “kids,” and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her soul is now at eternal rest and peace, surrounded by the love and grace she so freely gave in life.
Kay will be deeply missed by her brothers: Bob (Teresa) Cooper and Ted Cooper; sisters: Ann (Oscar) Nelson and Jane; sister-in-law, Laurie Cooper; along with several other relatives and friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her brother, David Cooper.
A celebration of Kay’s life will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. with Pastor Isaac Miller from Grace Church officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kay’s name may be directed to any of the following entities: Grace Church Benevolent Fund (3626 Hwy 31, Racine, WI 53405, https://graceinracine.com/giving/) and/or the Wisconsin Humane Society Racine Campus (8900 16th Street, Mount Pleasant, WI 53177, https://www.wihumane.org/summermatch).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dipal and all the staff members at Aashiyana Group Home for their wonderful care with Kay, and the Harmony Hospice staff for providing her comfort measures throughout her remaining days.
