Virginia Garcia's Obituary
Racine – Virginia Garcia, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 2, 2017.
Virginia was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico to Rufino Felix and Mercedes Torres on June 21, 1921. She was married to Francisco Velasquez Garcia until his death on February 28, 1973.
Virginia attended St. Edward’s, St. Rose’s, and St. Patrick’s churches. She had a passion for gardening. Her family would say Virginia had a magical green thumb because she could grow anything. Virginia also enjoyed cooking for her family. She loved her family, especially all her grandchildren, and will be missed dearly.
Virginia is survived by her children: Sonia Marema, Hector Garcia, Tomas Garcia, Harry Garcia, Francisco Garcia (aka Junior), Virginia Spencer, and Angela Garcia; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and several more that she considered her grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Garcia, two sisters, and four brothers.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at Wilson Funeral Home (1212 Lathrop Ave) on Friday, September 8, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. with Father Allen Bratkowski of St. Edward’s officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Virginia will be laid to rest with her husband, Francisco, at Cementerio de Guayama Municipal in Guayama, Puerto Rico.
Virginia’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Katherine, Jennifer, Shirley, Brian, and Brianna from Aurora at Home Hospice, Deacon Greg from Aurora Hospice, and Sandra Moreno for their compassionate care of Virginia.
