Vernalda Gummeson's Obituary
Vernalda E. (nee: Nelson) Gummeson, 76, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2006, at the Wheaton Franciscan Health Care Center-All Saints. She was born in Wesley, Iowa on December 9, 1929, to the late Thomas E. and Mabel Nelson. Mrs. Gummeson had lived in Racine for about 10 years. She grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa. She married Rev. Axel Morgan Gummeson on June 18, 1954, in Clear Lake, Iowa. They served together in ministry for 44 years. While she was attending high school, she began floral designing, which she continued to do for most of her life. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1948 and attended Trinity College from 1952 until 1954. Vernalda will be remembered for her beautiful smile, independent spirit, and her love of family. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Axel; one son, Joel Gummeson; one daughter, Joy (Clark) Quandahl; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Jeffry, James, Jordan, Josiah, Jillian, and Jenelle Gummeson and Eric Quandahl; three brothers, Thomas E. Nelson, Russell Nelson, and Roger Nelson; and her step-mother, Vivian Nelson. Mrs. Gummeson was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Janet Gummeson. Funeral services will be held in the Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Ball and Rev. John Miesel officiating. Burial will be in Southeastern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends and relatives may meet with the family in the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
