Thomas Eugene Gursky Sr's Obituary
Thomas Eugene Gursky Sr., age 82, passed away on March 4, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
On October 15, 1935, Thomas was born to William and Lillian (nee Dolezal) Gursky in Racine. On May 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Shirley Reeser in Racine. Thomas worked for the City of Racine for 32 years. He was a crossing guard for the city for 17 years. He also did work at the local parks, streets, and the Racine Zoo.
Thomas was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and sitting out with his family by the campfire. He loved to read and had an interest in archeology. Thomas was very artistic and even made his own decorations for Christmas. He built his own reindeer and sleigh for decorations. Thomas’ family say he was a great cook, even cooking more than his wife, Shirley. He loved having Barbeques with his family during the warm months. Most of all, Thomas’ favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. Thomas was greatly loved and admired by his family and he will be missed dearly.
Left to cherish Thomas’ memory is his loving wife, Shirley; daughter, Sherri (Allan) Skinner; four sons: Thomas Gursky Jr., Alan Gursky of Red Granite, WI, Brian (Maricel) Gursky of Illinois, and Mark (Sue) Gursky; sister-in-law, Roberta Peterson of Arizona; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers: William Gursky Jr. and Jack Gursky.
A celebration of Thomas’ life will take place on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home (1212 Lathrop Avenue). A time of visitation will be on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
