Thelma Irene Umberger's Obituary
Racine-Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Super Grandma, Thelma “Dar” Irene (Parson) Umberger, 88, went to sleep from this life in anticipation of her eternal home on Friday, January 27, 2023.
Thelma was born in Tacoma, Washington on December 17, 1934, to Louis and Carrie (nee Fletcher) Parson. She had two brothers, Alfred, and Perry. After graduating from High School, she met and married Donald J Umberger. They settled in Racine where they raised five children and started a business, Capital Toyota. She also worked at the family-owned A&W in the summers. Later in life she took a job for the Ulmschneider (Coty) family where she helped run the household and take care of their two boys Kurt and Chris. Thelma enjoyed 16 years helping the family and watching the boys grow up. She was particularly close to Chris who traveled many times to see her over the years after she retired. Thelma loved her family, her church family, and friends. She was a truly giving person and would rather give to others in need than have new things for herself. She lived in the same home for 65 years. She loved God and followed him all the days of her life after being baptized in 1955. Her church family meant the world to her, and she loved them dearly. Thelma loved and cherished her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved and cared for many family pets along the way. She will be missed immensely; she was loved very much. Thank you, mom, for all your hard work and sacrifices and for being a wonderful Mother, we all love you so much. Rest In Peace Mama, until we see you again in heaven.
Thelma is survived by her five children: Luanne McNulty, Donna Umberger, Gayle Dederich (Mark), Mia (Mitch) Latinkic, and Glenn Umberger; her precious grandchildren: Garrett, Jennifer (Scott), Sam, Mitchell, Lauren, and Cameron; great-grandchildren: Brynn, Elle, and Maya; along with nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, including very special lifelong friends, Skip and Patti Bartz of Lacrosse, Wisconsin.
Preceding Thelma in death are her parents, both brothers, and husband of over 40 years, and other relatives.
A celebration of Thelma’s life will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 12:00 P.M. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Committal Service and interment were held privately at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials in Thelma’s name may be directed to any charity of your choice and/or Racine Seventh-Day Adventist Church (1810 Durand Ave, Racine, WI 53403).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice along with Dr. Desiree Dizadji and staff for all their care and compassion. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Patricia Norton, Mike and Jeanette Hazlett and other special church members for being there for Thelma.
