Sue Vela's Obituary
Racine – Sue Vela (nee: Martinez), 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at home.
Sue was born in Paris, Wisconsin June 23, 1945 to the late Benito E. Martinez and Angelita (nee: Rangel) Martinez. On June 22, 1965, she was united in marriage to David P. Vela. On November 10, 1973 they renewed their vows of marriage at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
For more than 25 years, Sue was employed by the Racine Unified School District as lunchroom supervisor. Sue was a devout Christian who lived to serve the Lord. She attended Word of Faith Family Church and was a longtime member of St. Patrick's. She enjoyed attending to her family and her home. Sue was known for her generosity, unselfishness and hospitality; many considered her to be their second mother. Her extended family meant the world to her; she was the glue that held them together through life's best and most difficult moments. Sue was a talented seamstress who loved to make dolls. She was an avid Packers fan.
Sue is the beloved wife of David and mother of Laurie. She will be dearly missed by her brothers and sisters, Armando (Esther) Martinez, Albert Martinez, Daniel Martinez, Angelita Martinez (Pilar Gomez), Linda Barroso (Jose Jimenez), and Mary Jane Martinez; special nephews, Jacob and Carlos Martinez; brother-in-law, Reynaldo (Linda) Vela; sisters-in-law, Gloria Aguilar, Angeline Ortega, Adeline (David) Hollis. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Benito (Angelita) Martinez; parents-in-law, Raul (Hermangilda) Vela; brothers, Luis, Tony and Benito Martinez; sister, Virginia Martinez; and sister-in-law, Lucy Vela.
Funeral services honoring Sue's life will be held at the Racine Family Worship Center on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Guadalupe Torres officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at church from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 with a celebration of life service at 6:30. Memorials to the family have been suggested.
