Shirley Ann Johnson's Obituary
Racine – Shirley Ann Johnson (nee Lettau), 83, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Ascension All Saints Hospital.
Shirley was born in Wilmington, DE, to the late Carl and Ellen (nee Lane) Lettau on September 1, 1937. She was united in marriage to James Andrew Johnson on August 15, 1956, in Hollywood, MD. He had preceded her in death on August 29, 2002.
For many years, Shirley worked in the food service department for two schools: St. Catherine’s Catholic School and Renaissance School from which she retired in March 2020. Shirley had a strong faith in God and was a nurturer by nature. She was caring, very giving of herself and loved unconditionally. Shirley enjoyed cooking and always made more than enough to share with others. She would take care of anyone that had a need. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and sewing. Above all, family was her life, “She was our saint.”
Left to cherish the memories of Shirley are her children: Julie (Jeff) Jonas, Susie (Mark) Soderlund, Rhonda Loomis, Sandy (Kevin) Cook, Vicky Johnson, Tammy (Joe) King and Brenda (Nick) Aiello; son-in-law, Mark King; grandma “Grammy” was also cherished by 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Shaw, Billy Lettau, Donald “Donny” (Pattie) Lettau and Evelyn Decker; sister-in-law, Elaine Johnson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends including, Evelyn and Merle (d.) Grate.
Shirley was also preceded in death by two daughters: Linda Johnson and Roxanne King; former son-in-law, Kevin Loomis; two brothers: Jim and Buzzy Lettau; one sister, Jean (Bill) Bentley; four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Buck and Gordon (Betty) Johnson, Mary Lettau, Daniel Decker, Ray Shaw and nephew, Mark Shaw.
A private service of committal and inurnment will take place at a later date. A memorial service for Shirley will also be held on a later date. Donations to the Racine Christian Reformed Church, 900 Illinois Street, Racine, WI 53405 have been suggested.
The Johnson family would like to give a special thank you to the Ascension All Saints ICU staff, also the nurses on the third floor, especially Miranda and the staff of Ascension at Home Hospice for all of their kindness and caring compassion for Shirley and her family.
