I was blessed to get to know my mother-in-law, Shirley. Before the first stroke we were able to celebrate some memorable holidays singing carols for Christmas, sharing stories of past family gatherings, and family trips that we're taken. She definitely had a lot of stories to tell. Unfortunately after she suffered the first stroke she lost most of her ability to speak. She could get out some words here and there but wasn't really able to complete a sentence. That didn't stop her from trying though. She also didn't seem to remember me but after a while she realized that I was with Kevin and was happy when she got to see wedding pictures. I think she even gave us a blessing wanting both of us to put our hands into hers and raising them into the air looking up to heaven. I'll always remember her long hugs, blowing kisses while we were leaving, and her humor that filled laughter into the room. Rest in Peace Mom!
