Sheryl "Sherry" Ystenes (Christman)'s Obituary
Franksville - Sheryl "Sherry" Ystenes (Christman), age 76, was called home to eternal rest on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Sheryl was born on December 24th, 1947, to Alvin and Irene Christman. The oldest of five children, she cherished her siblings Kenny (Jan) Christman, Mike (Cathy) Christman, Donna Foster, and Keith (Cathy) Christman. Sheryl grew up in Sturtevant, attending St. Sebastian’s Grade School. As a child and again as a young adult, Sheryl suffered from rheumatic fever, causing her to graduate a year late, in 1967 from W. Horlick High School. After high school, she worked at Modine Manufacturing. On November 9th, 1968, she married the love of her life, David Ystenes. Once they had their family, she became a full-time homemaker. She and David raised four children in their cozy, loving home on Debby Lane. Her kids were her life and, in her words, her everything.
Later on, Sheryl worked at Sam’s Club in Racine, extending her warm smile to many people that went through her line. Throughout the years, she provided daycare to several of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. It was in her nature to comfort, protect and care for others. Additionally, she loved to feed people. Her infamous noodle salad, delicious banana bread, and her perfectly caramelized sweet potatoes aimed to please. She was a short order cook for breakfast, the kids pointing out that even her toast turned out just right. Simply put, it was made with love. Sheryl and David hosted countless holidays and celebrations in their home and anyone who stopped by was greeted with, “come on in!” She instilled in others a joy for the little things in life…a good cup of coffee, the beauty of a full moon, or a car ride to get ice cream were all things to be grateful for.
Sheryl was a woman of deep faith. She prayed every day for everyone and has undoubtedly now met her maker. As heartbroken as we are, we have a new guardian angel.
Sheryl is survived by her devoted husband, David, who cared for her to the very end of their 56 years together. She is also survived by her children: Jodi (Paul) Emmons, Jason (Barbara) Ystenes, Carla (Jeremy) Steimle, and Katie (Steve) Reichel; and her grandchildren (to whom she was known as Nana), Brooke, Benjamin, and Brynn Emmons, Blaine and Lexi Ystenes, Gavin and Callie Steimle, Allyson and Dane Reichel; and many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Irene Christman; and her parents in-law, Obert and Clara Ystenes.
A time of visitation for Sheryl will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday for an additional time of visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of mass. Sheryl’s final resting place will be at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
