Roy Braid,'s Obituary
Racine- Mr. Roy W. Braid, 80, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare- All Saints after a brief illness.
Roy was born in Racine to the late Roy William Sr. and Mildred (nee: Olson) Braid on July 26, 1930 and lived his entire life in Racine. He was united in marriage to Joyce (nee: Spencer) on July 28, 1951.
Mr. Braid proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Throughout his life, he was employed at Borden's Milk Company, served as president of National Aluminum, Racine Aluminum, and after his retirement, continued to work assisting his family at Apple Holler. Roy also was a little league coach for many years, served as past president of Gethsemane Lutheran Church Council, sponsored numerous fast-pitch ball teams, previously owned the Racine Raiders, and belonged to the Racine Purchasing Agents and Lutheran Men's Bowling League.
He will be dearly missed by Joyce, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Cheryl (Thomas) Hollibush and Vicki (David) Flannery; grandchildren, Jill Brink, Kristi Duban, Laura (Daniel) Sadowski, and Elyse, Riley, Connor, Bailey, and Paige Flannery; and great-grandchildren, Christian Matalik and Madelyn Sadowski as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gary Braid.
Funeral Services in memory of Roy will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church (3319 Washington Ave.) on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 12:00pm with Rev. Alice Horton and Rev. Mike Steinke officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends are invited to meet the family at church from 10:00am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gethsemane Lutheran Church and to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
