Robert Reinhardt Karnopp's Obituary
Sturtevant-Robert R. Karnopp passed away on September 28, 2017.
Robert was born on August 3, 1923 in Racine, WI. He was the son of Reinhard and Jennie
(nee: Rasmussen) Karnopp.
Robert attended Washington Park High School. He served as a decorated combat military police in World War II in Belgium, France, and Germany. After his military service he attended Marquette University and graduated with a physics degree in 1950.
During his lifetime, he worked as a chief electrical engineer in several Racine companies and invented a couple of electric motors that are still being used today. Robert was elected a trustee for the village of Sturtevant seven times. During that time he helped develop the Renaissance Business Park and TIF district, along with Killarney Kourt apartment complex, where he resided until his death. He has a ballpark and street named after him in Sturtevant. Robert’s hobby was building objects, one of his accomplishments was building his cottage on Lake Koshkonong.
Robert is survived by many nieces and nephews, one great-great niece, and one great-great nephew.
Robert is preceded in death by both his parents and his sister Marjorie A. Kozlik.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at Wilson Funeral Home (1212 Lathrop Ave) on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with Colleen Vice officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park will full military honors.
