Born in Prentice, WI, on August 22, 1936, Bob was the son of Regis F. and Gladys A. (née Schilling) Wieland. He was raised alongside three brothers and five sisters. Bob spent much of his childhood in the care of his godparents, Dan and Grace Stibs, who became an important part of his life.
Bob began working on family farms as a farmhand, helping with daily farm duties and learning the value of hard work. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957, where he served with distinction in the 509th Bomb Wing as part of the Strategic Air Command. During his time in the Air Force, Bob developed a deep appreciation for the B-52 bombers. Due to a medical injury, he was honorably discharged in 1960.
In 1962, Bob married Melinda “Sue” Brook in Waukegan, IL. Together, they had a son, Randall J. Wieland, and later made their home in Racine, WI. Bob worked for J.I. Case Company for many years, eventually retiring in 1992. During his time at J.I. Case, Bob was a member of Local Union 180. He was also a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Racine.
In retirement, Bob and Sue moved to a peaceful farm near Cazenovia, WI, where Bob embraced the simple joys of rural life. He spent his days enjoying nature, caring for animals, and spending time with his family, especially his beloved dogs. Bob’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, beekeeping, and farming, all of which brought him immense satisfaction.
Bob was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind his son, Randy (Vickie, née Post) Wieland; grandchildren: Lindsey (Timothy) Koellen, Olivia Wieland, and Christine (Jerad) Matkus; and great-grandchildren: William Koellen, Sierra Laster, and Harliquin Matkus. He is also survived by his brother, Regis Wieland; sisters: Joanne Beaugrand, Darlene DeTeaye, Edna Schlief, Linda Sloan, and Emily Misna; and dear family friend, Tammy Harms.
