Richard Giese's Obituary
Racine- Mr. Richard C. Giese, 78, passed away on Friday, August 06, 2010 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints.
Richard Giese was born in Racine to the late Harvey and Mary (nee: McNair) Giese on February 22, 1932. He had lived in Racine his whole life. In Racine, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Wiseman in 1952.
Mr. Giese served in the United States Navy for four years at the Great Lakes Navel Base. He was employed by Western Publishing and retired after 37 years. Richard attended the First Church of God. He was a member of the Racine Numismatic Society and was a member and a competitor of the Lakeshore Rifle and Pistol Club.
Dick enjoyed the YMCA Camp Anokijig when he was younger. He spent seven years as a camper and two years on the JR staff. When he was young he also earned his pilots license and enjoyed flying in the bush of Alaska. Later on he was asked to become a member of the Camp Anokijig Board. He served as a board member for 27 years and secretary for ten years. Dick was also a member of the Racine YMCA Kiltie Drum and Bugle Corp. for seven years.
Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth; one son, Brian (Penny) Giese; one granddaughter, Rachel Giese; and one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two children Maryalice Nelson and Charles Michael Giese; one infant grandson; two brothers; and two sisters-in-law.
A memorial ceremony will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 12 noon with Rev. David Andersen officiating. Private inurnment will be held at Mound Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 11 am until the time of the ceremony. Memorials may be directed to Camp Anokijig or to Racine Kiltie Drum and Bugle Corp.
