Peter Richard Mauer's Obituary
Peter Richard Mauer, “Captain Pete” passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 16, 2017.
Peter came into this world on April 4, 1938. He was the son of Richard and Agnes (nee Elkscamp) Mauer. He lived in Racine all of his life attending St. Rose grade school and St. Catherine’s high school. On December 30, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married the love of his life, Mary Prochniak.
Peter served time in the United States Army. He was a journeyman structural iron worker by trade and was also the owner of Racine Snowmobile for over 20 years. He will also most fondly be remembered as Captain Pete of the “Reel Fun” charter boat on Lake Michigan. He was an honorary, lifetime member of the Fifth Street Yacht Club.
Pete was a devoted family man. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. They enjoyed trips to the Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica, Hawaii, Spain and Morocco. Pete and his family spent many winters in the Florida Keys and made many trips to Disney. He took many hunting trips up North with his children and grandchildren. Pete loved to spend time in the yard working on his fish pond and cutting grass on his tractor. He was an avid snowmobiler and loved riding his Harley. Pete was a great story teller and loved to regale friends and family with the stories of his many adventures. Pete lived a full life and was loved by all who knew him.
Peter will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Mary; children: Shelli (Ron Dobrowski), Rick (Lori) Mauer, and Jon (Courtney) Mauer; grandchildren: Brittany, Brandon, and Brett Dobrowski and Samantha, Erica, Jacob and Amber Mauer; brothers: James (Connie) Mauer and Bill (Carol) Mauer; sisters: Jenny (Ken) Burner and Mary (Bob) Duby; mother-in-law, Dorothy Prochniak; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wayne (Diane) Halkowitz and Bill (Colleen) Prochniak; and nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Captain Pete’s Life will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 noon. Committal and interment with full Military Honors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Peter's name at BMO Harris Bank.
