Pastor Ferrell was my childhood pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Carrington, ND. He was such a kind hearted man. He was always willing to be silly and have fun but he was serious and compassionate when he needed to be. I have fond memories of Bible School, Sunday school and FaHoCha Bible Camp with him. When I was an early teen, he took us to Medora to camp, sight see, ride horses and attend the musical. Such a brave man to take on this adventure! Many years later, he came to visit me in the hospital in Grand Forks after I had my first child. I was so surprised and so thrilled that he took time out of his day to make the two hour trip. He married my husband and I on June 19th, 1999. I remember telling him before I got married that I didn’t want to say “obey” in my vows. He took this in stride and grinned. When the ceremony sermon started he winked at me just as he said “today our sermon will be about obedience.” I will never forget this kind and gentle man. He had more patience than anyone. I will forever remember him when I listen to Allan Jackson’s gospel songs as they always remind me of that little tiny church in Carrington. Softly and Tenderly was one of my favorites and I truly believe Jesus called him home. I am praying for Joyce and all of his family as I know how hard it is to lose a kind and patient man. He was a dear friend to my Grandpa Gary Miller and I have never forgotten him for being such a good friend to him. Rest In Peace Pastor Ferrell. I loved you very much.
