Michael Mark Meyer's Obituary
"Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His godly ones." - Psalm 116:15.
This was one of the last things shared with his family on Friday, December 12, 2025, when Michael Mark Meyer "Mike", 71 a resident of Lindenhurst, IL went home to be with the Lord. Entering eternity from the Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital in Kenosha, WI while surrounded by his family.
Mike's life has been anything but boring, this was always evident to all that knew him. The late Ken and Elaine Meyer were graced with his presence on his older brother's 2nd birthday; September 17, 1954, in Chickasha, OK. He spent his childhood adventures in Muskogee, Oklahoma where he was a pivotal member of the band "Cheese Crowbar". Upon graduating he headed to Norman to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue Journalism and Film where he was an active member of the ПКА fraternity. Following the completion of his studies, he bounded off to LA with the promise he'd be working with Orson Wells. As would become all too familiar, God had other plans and he instead ended up working as an underwriter. It was here that he met the love of his life and best friend, Sandra Ann Roberson, or more commonly known as "Sandi". They returned to Muskogee and were wed on March 7, 1981. Shortly afterward, Mike felt the call to ministry which led them to Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX. It is here where he pursued and completed his Master of Theology over the next five years and was ordained. They began seminary as a couple, and despite being warned by many friends to not drink the water, they left as a family of six.
Post-seminary, Mike was first called to work at Harmony Bible Church, in Danville, IA where their fifth child arrived and where he served as the Youth and Missions Pastor faithfully from 1987-2002. Ministering to hundreds and sharing and living out Acts 1:8 as they ministered to their own Jerusalem, Judea, and he organized and led teams out to the ends of the earth. Upon the completion of his time at Harmony, Pastor Mike served as the interim Senior Pastor for Faith Bible Church of Oquawka, IL for a year and a half prior to moving onto his position as the Senior Pastor for Savanna Bible Church in Savanna, IL. Regardless of the church family or location, his passion for missions was maintained and his teamwork with Sandi continued all the way through to his retirement on October 3, 2021. Mike was a family man who was a loving father and Granddad taking his daughter and sons-in-law as his own children and extending that love to all of his grandchildren. He was always quick to teach and pass on important bits of knowledge that spanned theological discussions to how flammable a person may be, to the importance of incorporating carbon into your daily diet.
While he would call himself the salt of the earth, Mike's life would be peppered with health issues and regular fights with various forms of cancer. He was a man that truly did not want to stay down. You would be hard pressed to locate a more dedicated OU Sooner fan outside the Oklahoma borders; he had a seasonal rotation of OU teams he followed along with a seasonal rotation of passion projects and activities he was well known for. Springs were for planting his famous Meyer gardens, along with frogging, and the start of the fishing season. Have you heard about the Moss Boss? Give Mike five minutes and you too will know of its superior fish catching capabilities. The Summers were full of mission trips, gardening, family adventures and the great pursuit of photographs of God's amazing creation.
Autumn brought hunting seasons, from deer, to geese, to pheasant and ducks, Mike would gear up and head out to spend time in nature and bring home tasty things for the family table. Then Winter was the time for board games, putting together puzzles, and quilting. The latter was something he became more and more skilled at as the years progressed. This ultimately led to a tradition in which he would carefully research, purchase, plan and craft a custom quilt for every one of his grandchildren. He also entered his custom complex quilt designs into county fairs and was tickled to be the Lake County Fair Grand Champion in textiles. In his later years he served actively in the Rotary Club and served as the president twice. For all of his familiarity with ceremonies, services, and organizational requirements. He was not a fan of obituaries or funerals, as he has had to participate in more than his fair share. As such, we left the historical information until the end, pun intended.
Mike truly smiled as he was welcomed into heaven by his father Kenneth L. Meyer Jr, mother, Elaine Kathleen (Nesbitt) Meyer, his baby sister Elizabeth Suzanne "Suzie" Meyer, and his granddaughter Abigail Marie Eubanks. Mike is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 45 years, Sandra A. (Roberson) Meyer; his brother Kenneth L. Meyer IlI, sister Elaine Kathleen Meyer Jr. Along with his five children; Katie K. (Meyer) High, Suzanne M. (Meyer) Massey, Marie (Meyer) Eubanks, Anna K. (Meyer) Lynum, Jeremiah T. Meyer, and his 20 precious grandchildren.
To honor the families wishes, there will not be a funeral but rather a 'Celebration of Life' service sometime in the coming year where we will come together and celebrate and share the joy he brought to us all. We will be sure to release that information when it becomes available.
Until then, due to current accommodations, we ask in lieu of flowers that memorials be directed to Sandi Meyer at 580 Madison Ln, Lindenhurst, IL 60046 to help her in this time.
A final thought he wished to share with you all. It is one of his favorite verses:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understandings. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6
