Maynard Quenten Poulsen's Obituary
Mount Pleasant - Maynard Quenten Poulsen passed away peacefully at home Wednesday December 3, 2014.
Maynard was born in Racine on March 26, 1926 to Johannes and Cecelia (nee: Kirkegaard) Poulsen. In Racine, he was united in marriage to Beverly Rexilius on June 10, 1950. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2008.
Maynard was a lifetime member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and the Racine Reel and Rifle Club. He served in World War II with the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard USS Delta in the Mediterranean Sea and the Philippine Islands. Maynard worked in the building trades until retirement in 1988. He worked for Korndoerfer Construction Corp. for 27 years.
Maynard loved and enjoyed building homes, schools, churches, etc. He was a master carpenter, craftsman and woodworker; his beautiful handmade furniture and art is spread is across the country in the homes of grateful friends and family. He did volunteer work for many charities, including Habitat for Humanity and was always happy to help anyone in need.
Maynard is survived by his children, Denise Lisowski, David Poulsen, Sandra (Peter) Mars; sister, Delores (Ralph) Miller; sisters-in-law, Barbara Rexilius and Pearl Poulsen; other relatives and many, many friends. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Roy Poulsen and sister, Betty (Erick) Waehrens.
A celebration of Maynard’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Wilson Funeral Home from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to share their thoughts and fond memories of Maynard from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM. Private inurnment will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Habitat for Humanity.
