Mary Ann Harris' Obituary
Racine - Mary Ann Harris, 92, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine.
Mary was born to the late O.T. and Carrie (nee Wagner) Spence on April 18, 1932, in Nitro, West Virginia. On March 29, 1952, she married the love of her life, Thomas Harris, in Hampton, Virginia. Together, they shared a beautiful journey that included raising a family, traveling the world, and creating countless cherished memories. Thomas preceded her in death in August of 2003.
Mary lived a life full of joy and passion. A devoted fan of Elvis Presley, she could often be found listening to his timeless music. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society. Mary had a knack for teaching others how to play her favorite card game, Skip-Bo, a tradition that brought people together around the table.
Above all, Mary cherished her role as a great-grandmother. Her nurturing spirit and warm heart earned her the affectionate title of "Nana" to many, whether related by blood or love. She will be remembered for her kind nature and unwavering love for her family.
Mary will be deeply missed by her children: Tim (Sue) Harris, Elizabeth Harris, John Harris, Anita Howard, and Mark (Joann) Harris; grandchildren: Brandon, Bobby, Matthew (Asti), Amanda (Casey), Katie, Christine (Zach), Daniel (Blaine), Jerrod (Kelly), Alyssa (Matt), Abigail, and Conner; great-grandchildren: Sydney, Ryan, Grant, Marshal, Finn, Kyera, Gia, Lincoln, Oliver, Brayden, Colby, Shep, Chris, Miles, and Cash; sisters: Mary Ann and Betty Jo; along with many others she considered family.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; grandson, Tommy Howard; sisters: Sue, Edna, and Lois; and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Harris.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Cedar Lake United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation at the church on Saturday from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Food and fellowship will follow at 2:00 PM. Memorials in Mary’s name may be directed to Cedar Lake United Methodist Church (7124 W 137th Pl, Cedar Lake, IN 46303).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Harvest Home in Mount Pleasant for making mom's last couple of years comfortable and full. She was very happy there and well cared for.
