Mark Alan Obermeier (Tex)
STURTEVANT – Mark Alan Obermeier (58) passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Born to Siegfried and Christina (Wayer) Obermeier on July 19, 1956 in Racine, Wisconsin.
Graduated from Park High in 1974. United in marriage to Vicki Sweeny on May 17, 1980. Worked at Racine Country Club during high school on the grounds crew – Ives Grove Golf Links as assistant superintendant until 1987 and then went into the Racine County Highway Dept. retiring as general foreman, maintaining the roads and making sure he had the crews in at the midnight shift during the winter storms and still worked his regular shift. Retired July 22, 2011 and then in April 2012 was diagnosed with melanoma and then metastatic melanoma in 2013 which then went to his brain, ending his life. Marks amazing, special and wonderful niece Amanda Lojeski was always an inspiration, being there for him and calling him every day, as well as Cheri Tyllo, a great friend to all, helping Mark get through the past three years and also his sister Debbie. In 1984 he built and designed his home with Vicki on the Obermeier farm land, along with very dear friends Tim and Cheri Tyllo and Dick and Lois Meekma.
An opportunity of his life time was working part time for Kuiper Family Farms spring and fall for 25 years with all the fabulous equipment and tractors. He was known as Hahnsie by Chuck and Sue, Chuck (CK3), Joe Kuiper, Jerry Oberhardt and George Reesman.
Mark’s love of Texas began at 19 when neighbors moved down to the Poolville and Springtown Area. For 40 years taking vacations spring and fall he would stay with friends Dona Reeves of Reeves Ranch and her brother Dave Ellis a very dear friend along with brother-in-law Mike and would help out at the ranch and in later years became good friends with Dona’s daughter and husband Carrie and Waylond Long of 2L Truck and their children Libby, Abby and Binion Long.
Seasonal camper at Wayne, Rhonda and Kristen’s River Bay Resort near the dells on the Wisconsin River, along with Al and Edie Ludwig, Keith, Rich, Sandi and many more. Also enjoyed riding his pontoon boat down the Wisconsin River. Snowmobiled from 1977 to present. Had many good times with Verla and Pinky at Pinky’s Hideout, Brossmans, Gregs/Dons market, Cabbageheads and the TBird.
Trains were a hobby of Mark’s. Loved the Mississippi River and traveled in the U.S., Europe, Mexico and Aruba. Mark enjoyed golfing, watching Nascar and Formula One.
Enjoyed watching nephew Matt who plays pro basketball in the Euro League and even traveled to many of his games in the States. Mark is proud of all his nieces and nephews.
Sadly missed by wife Vicki (Sweeny) of Sturtevant, canine companions Austin and Sidney, feline companions Sherman and BW, sister Debbie (Tom) Lojeski of Franksville, nephews Matt (Elise) Lojeski of Athens Greece and David of Franksville, nieces Amanda Lojeski of Franksville and Trish (Brian) Rogers of Waterford, great nephews of Greece Matthew, Mason and baby nephew due to arrive in July, brothers-in-law Mike Sweeny of Sturtevant, Mark Sweeny of Racine and Elaine Sweeny of Franksville, nephews Robert (Allison) Sweeny of Seattle Washington, Brian (Megan) Sweeny of Kenosha, Nicholas Sweeny of Franksville, great nieces and nephews Destiny, Michael and Hunter Rogers and god-daughters Amy (Tim) Rendall of Franklin, Jodi (Jed) Anderson of Mt. Pleasant and Ashley Henningfield daughter of Jon and Kathy of Kenosha and godson Matt Lojeski. Mark will also be missed many friends, neighbors and relatives of the family.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents Siegfried and Christina (Wayer) Obermeier, in-law’s Robert and Joan (Bowers) Sweeny, grandparents Otto and Helen Obermeier and Henry and Ida Wayer and Sidney and Florentine Bowers
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16, 2015. Friends and relatives may visit with the family from 1:00 PM until the time of the service and also the night before on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers monetary gifts of condolences will be used for Mark and Vicki’s animal charities and cancer research. Condolences may be expressed at www.wilsonfuneralhomeracine.com
Special thanks goes to Froedert Memorial Hospital for Mark’s care the past three years, all of his oncologists, Dr. Stuart Wong– Karen, Jill and Ellen—Dr. Jennifer Connelly, Dr. Siker, Dr. Schieke and neurologists Dr. Wade Mueller and Dr. Chad Carlson, surgeon Dr. D., the ICU unit and the 4th floor NW doctors and caregivers. Special thanks is also given to Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa to all the staff who worked and cared for Mark and gave Mark the dignity he deserved in his final days. And to my postmaster and all of my coworkers at Oak Creek for giving me the time I needed with Mark.
