Louis Miskulin's Obituary
Racine - Louis J. Miskulin, 83, passed away at Lakeshore Manor in Racine on June 23, 2007.
Louis was born in Racine on April 30, 1924 to the late John and Mary (nee: Derzay) Miskulin. He has lived in Racine all his life. Louis was united in marriage to Elizabeth (nee: Poplawski) on September 15, 1951. The secret to their happy marriage of 55 years was Louis saying, "Yes dear, no dear, anything you say dear." As a couple, Louis and Elizabeth made many treasured friendships both in their own neighborhood as well as through their Elderhostel travels.
Louis completed two years of study at UW-Madison prior to serving in the United States Army as a laboratory technician from 1946 to 1947. Afterwards, he attended Milwaukee School of Engineering where he graduated at the top of his class. Upon graduation in 1949, he worked with his father at Miskulin Heating and Sheet Metal. He later worked at Twin Disc for 27 years as a lab research technician retiring in 1986. Louis was a member of St. Richard's Catholic Church, the Twin Disc 20 year club, and the Croatian Fraternal Union. He enjoyed singing, biking, playing Cribbage and Friendly Neighbor with family and friends, and reading stories to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Louis is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; one son, John (Leslie) Miskulin of Valparaiso, Indiana; five daughters, Liz Bruns of Racine, Ruth (Stan) Sylva of Aurora, Colorado, Sue (Gerry) Harsh of Racine, Ellen (Dave) Peters of Racine, and Mary (Tommi) Sjogren of Waukesha. He frequently told all of his children, "Don't do as I do, do as I say."
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Kara (Scott) Reske, Emily (Scott) Schoenfelder, Lauren Peters, Justin (Jen) Sylva, Ryan (Jimmi) Sylva, Kristen Sylva, Jason Harsh, Amelia Harsh, Alex Defatte, Maddie Miskulin, Niko Sjogren and Niina Sjogren. Louis provided his children and grandchildren with many words of wisdom such as "I told you 40 million times never to exaggerate!"
Louis was blessed with 9 great-grandchildren; David, Kallia and Elliott Reske, Ava Schoenfelder, Finnigan Peters, Devon and Gabriel Sylva, and Wyatt and Katarina Sylva. Louis will be fondly and lovingly remembered by his brother, Albert (Doris) Miskulin of Aiken, South Carolina and many other relatives and friends.
Louis was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rebecca Sjogren.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Richards Catholic Church, 1509 Grand Avenue, on Wednesday morning, June 27, 2007 at 10 am with Father Ron Gramza and Deacon Howie Wirtz officiating. Entombment will be held at Calvary Cemetery following the services. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, June 26, 2007 from 4 until 7 pm with a Prayer Vigil at 6 pm. Visitation will also be held at the Church on Wednesday morning from 9 am until the time of the Mass. Memorials to Wisconsin Parkinson's Association, St. Richard's Catholic Church, or to one's favorite charity have been suggested.
The Miskulin family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the staff at Lakeshore Manor for the kindness and compassion that was given to both Louis and the rest of the Miskulin family.
