LeRoy Mitchell's Obituary
Racine – LeRoy Mitchell, 82, was born on February 27, 1942, in Memphis, TN, to Leon and Frances Mitchell. He was the youngest of four. On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, LeRoy passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side.
LeRoy found the love of his life, Nora Lomack while working at Bell & Howell in 1975. They joined in holy matrimony on July 3, 1982, in Chicago, IL.
June 1960, LeRoy graduated from Cregier High School on the west side of Chicago and immediately went to work. For over twenty years, LeRoy dedicated himself to his work as a die caster at Allied Die Casting Company, Franklin Park, IL in the automotive department. Upon his retirement on March 9, 2007, LeRoy left behind a legacy and commitment to outstanding work.
In his leisure time, LeRoy loved watching movies, eating good food, and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren. Their laughter and joy brought light to his life, and he treasured every moment he spent with them.
In his younger years, LeRoy loved “dressing to impress” and exuded confidence wherever he went. He enjoyed his friends, hanging out in the park, jive talking and laughter.
LeRoy will be affectionately remembered by his wife, Nora Mitchell; daughter: Tara Lomack-Jenkins; sons: LeRoy Mitchell Jr. and Eddie Ray Nichols (Chellie); granddaughters: Jasmine Walton, Nika Jackson, Ashley and Dominique Nichols; grandsons: Michael Walton Jr. and Shawn Jackson; great-grandchildren: A’Zari Ellis-Jones, Bella Moffet, Makiyla Walton, Adarius Jones, J’lanii Arroyo and 14-more great grandchildren on the Nichols’ side; his aunt: Cynthia Johnson Banks (Curtis); sister-in-law: Dorothy Taylor (Clyde); Goddaughters: Ayhesha Pryor and Chikea Lomack; special sisters: Brenda Donahue (Maurice), Tina Wellington (Johnny), Lisa Bradd and Karen Thomas; special nieces and nephews: Selena Lomack, Annette Whitaker-Woods (Maurice) and Sean Moore; lifetime friends: Arthur (Lite) Smith (Barbara) and Darell Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded LeRoy in death were his parents: Leon and Frances Mitchell, grandparents: Alex and Eddie Mae Johnson, brother Leon Mitchell, sisters: Eleanor Jean-Whitaker and Farrah “Bell” Johnson, and Aunt Manola Blackburn (Johnny).
A Homegoing Celebration of LeRoy’s life will be at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, May 11, 2024, beginning with a wake at 1:00 PM until the start of the “Life Reflection” program at 2:00 PM. Deacon Maurice Donahue will be officiating.
Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
