LeRoy Howarth's Obituary
Racine- Mr. LeRoy M. Howarth, 90, passed away at his residence on Friday, February 19, 2010.
LeRoy was born in Sturtevant to the late Roy and Harriet (nee: Teske) Howarth on January 23, 1920. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Redman on October 26, 1956. LeRoy was a graduate of Washington Park High School and served in the Army from 1941-45. He was later employed as a mechanic for the US post office until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Howarth was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. When he served in WWII, he earned the American Defense service ribbon, European- African- Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Silver Battle Star, Good Conduct Metal, four overseas service Bars, and one service stripe. He was known as a jack-of-all-trades who loved to build and repair household items and cars. But most of all, he loved his family and spent much time with them.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Debra (Ara) Mekhsian and Sherry (Mark) Gertenbach; six grandchildren, Erik and Dana Mekhsian, Adam, Ryan, Greg, and Jennifer Gertenbach; and one great-grandchild, Julian Gertenbach. He is further survived by his sister, Dorothy Poulsen and family, a self adopted daughter, Tammy Spanger, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Howarth and his beloved dog, Trouble.
Funeral services for LeRoy will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Poppe officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:00am until the time of service.
