LaVerne Jane Dykhuis' Obituary
Racine- LaVerne Jane Dykhuis (Beth), age 92, passed away, July 22, 2016, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints.
LaVerne was born February 11, 1924 in Racine to Charles and Clara (Lehner) Beth. She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1941. On June 27, 1942, LaVerne married the love of her life, Henry J. Dykhuis.
LaVerne lived in Racine and was a member the First Church of God all of her life. She was very active in the church as the Music Leader and Organist as well as a youth mentor, Sunday school teacher and member of many ladies groups. She was a charter staff member of Jack and Jill Day Care Center where later she was known as "The Play Dough Lady". LaVerne’s activities included bowling (ladies bowling league), camping, gardening and making peanut brittle at Christmas for mission fund raising.
LaVerne also enjoyed attending the Church of God National Convention in Anderson In., and Family Camp at Rock Springs, WI. LaVerne was a follower of God and a loving person to her family. Together, with her husband, they fostered many others in need. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
LaVerne is survived by her husband of 74 years, Henry; children: Sharon Behling (Charles Holtz) of Racine, Gary Dykhuis (Jackie Roethel) of Sheboygan WI., Marvin (Rebekah) Dykhuis of Austin, TX.; grandchildren: Susan (Don) Peters, David (Kim) Forsman, Jeremy Dykhuis and Josh (Nell Currey) Dykhuis; great grandchildren: Caleb Peters, Jared Peters, Jackson Dykhuis, Jada Dykhuis, Katlin Forsman, Jacob Forsman; sister, Mary Ann (Henry - d.) Williams of Huntsville, AI; brother, Gilbert (Sharon) Beth of Racine; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. LaVerne loved and was loved by many special friends, too many to mention. She will be missed by all.
A celebration of LaVerne’s life will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on July 29, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends may meet with the family from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the First Church of God. Condolences may be shared at www.wilsonfuneralhomeinc.com.
