Laura Schultz's Obituary
Laura Nellie Schultz, 99, formerly of Racine, WI, died in the Lexington Health Center in Lombard, IL, on October 2, 2009. She was born in Juda, WI, on October 21, 1909 to William Frederick and Hermine (Abderhalden) Koepnick.
On June 24, 1933, she married Ralph Charles Schultz, a college classmate, in Milwaukee, WI. A graduate of Janesville High School and the Milwaukee State Teachers College (now University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) in 1932, she was an elementary school teacher in Winnetka, IL, in 1931-32 and in Waukesha, WI, in 1932-33 before becoming a homemaker.
She committed her life to Jesus Christ in 1932 during evangelistic services held by Paul Rader at the Gospel Tabernacle in Milwaukee. As a member of Calvary Memorial Church in Racine for 58 years she served as a high school and women's Sunday School teacher, Pioneer Girls leader, deaconess, Lend-a-Hand adviser, and Missions Board member. As program director, she wrote scripts for the Voice of Christian Youth weekly radio broadcast over WRJN for a decade during the 1940's and 1950's. She continued to teach weekly Bible studies until she was 90 and moved to Illinois in 2000 where she attended Lombard Bible Church for several years.
She is survived by her sons Gordon (Christine) of Wettingen, Switzerland and Richard (Carol) of Wheaton, five grandchildren, Christopher Schultz of Zurich, Switzerland, Stephanie (Christian) Lennartsson of R?djen?s, Sweden, Rebekka Schultz of Chicago, Peter Schultz of Portage, MI, and David Schultz of Wheaton, IL, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in 2005 and granddaughter Ellen Marie Schultz in 1988.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 pm. until the time of service at 4:00 pm. on Sunday, October 4, at Calvary Memorial Church, 4001 Washington Avenue, in Racine, with Pastor Nathan James officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park, Racine, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Moody Bible Institute, 820 N. LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, IL, 60610.
