Joyce Keen's Obituary
Sturtevant - Mrs. Joyce Margaret Keen, 80, passed away at her home on Tuesday evening, August 15, 2006.
Joyce was born in Racine to the late Sigvart and Margaret (nee: Costello) Simonsen on October 19, 1925. She had lived in Racine until her marriage to John Keen and then moved to Sturtevant.
Mrs. Keen was a member and very dedicated to St. Sebastian's Catholic Church. She belonged to the Old Timers Club and the Alter Society at the church. Mrs. Keen was all about helping other people. She volunteered at the church by working festivals, and funeral luncheons. She also was the church collections counter. She volunteered by knitting caps and cleaned toys for Toys for Tots, made bonnets and booties for the Red Cross every Tuesday. Mrs. Keen was employed by J.I. Case for 45 years and belonged to the 20 Year Club. She was also a member of Friends of Seniors. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
Joyce is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Joanne (Robert) Funk of Union Grove; 2 sisters-in-law, Esther Simonsen of California and Cele Keen of Racine; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and cousins, and special close friends, Luella Nissila, Joyce Karl, Tarquin and Mary Andekian. She was preceded in death by her husband, John on February 13, 1985; 3 brothers, Donald, Charles, and Robert, Simonsen; and one brother-in-law, Matt Keen
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church 3126 95th Street in Sturtevant on Saturday morning August 19, 2006 at 9 am with Fr. James Kendzierski celebrating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Friday evening, August 18, 2006 from 4 until 7 pm. There will be a prayer service on Friday evening at 7 pm. Memorial may be directed to St. Sebastian's Catholic Church.
