Jose "Joey" Valente Torrez's Obituary
Jose Valente Torrez, 36, went home to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on September 20, 2016.
Joey was born in Racine to Fernando Torrez Sr. and Dolores Avila on December 22, 1979. He graduated from George Nelson Tremper High School in Kenosha, class of 1998. He grew up to be a hard worker employed by Specialty Foods in Kenosha. Joey was a loving father and worked and lived for his children. He was a great friend and was there for everyone. Holidays were special with Joey. He never showed up empty handed and always came bearing gifts.
Joey attended the Racine Family Worship Center. He loved landscaping, decorating his home and creating art including: his ability to airbrush and doing arts and crafts with his kids. He was also known to write his own Christian raps. Smokin Joe as they called him, loved and stayed fresh with his clothes and hats at all times. Joey enjoyed playing basketball and played in many church tournaments. He was a die-hard sports fan, especially for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and the Miami Heat. Joey really enjoyed cookouts and get-togethers with his family as long as Coca-Cola and pizza were a part of it.
Joey will be dearly missed by his fiancée, Melisa Ventura; children: Alexandra and Joanna Cason, Anthony Brown, Liliana and Alana Torrez; sisters: Esperanza Fuentes and Rosanna (Chris) Honeycutt; brothers: Fernando Torrez, Jr. and Theodore (Erica) Torrez; father and step-mother, Fernando (Gloria M.) Torrez, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Hortencia Avila; special aunt, Frances Avila and special uncle, Samuel Torres, Sr.; other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo (Dolores) Fuentes; maternal grandfather, Manuel Avila; paternal grandparents, Guadalupe (Maria) Torres, Sr.; uncles, Steve Salas and Pastor Jesse Torres; nieces: Faith Torres and Brayliana Trinidad; and cousin, Raymond Torres.
A celebration of Joey’s life will be held at the Racine Family Worship Center, 1846 Mead Street, on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 1:00 PM with his uncle, Pastor Guadalupe Torres officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the Racine Family Worship Center on Sunday evening, September 25, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Monday morning, also at the Racine Family Worship Center from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM.
