Union Grove – John Edward Munch Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Wisconsin Veterans Home – Boland Hall.
John was born on May 14, 1946, to the late John Edward Munch Sr. and June Munch (nee Rasmussen) in California.
John proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1964 until 1975. During his years of service, he was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, and served aboard the W300, with additional assignments in Michigan, New York, and several other locations. He also served on the Northwind (2W282), experiences he carried with pride throughout his life.
Following his military service, John worked for many years as a prototype specialist at Modine Manufacturing in Racine. Beyond his career, John was known for his artistic spirit and creative talents. He had a deep appreciation for working with his hands and found great joy in wood carving and wood burning. These crafts allowed his patience, precision, and imagination to shine. His work reflected both skill and artistry, and he took pride in creating pieces that were uniquely his own. John also enjoyed riding his
Harley and playing pool, hobbies that brought him relaxation and happiness.
John had a special love for cats, which brought him comfort and companionship throughout his life. He enjoyed knife making and was a proud member of the Badger Knife Club.
John will be deeply missed by his siblings, Shelley (Gary) Siegel, Jeff (Dennise) Munch, and Debbie Munch; his nieces and nephews: Josh, Jordan, Landon, Deanna, Donna, Holly, and Alyssa; along with many other relatives and friends.
Committal services with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
