John Matera's Obituary
Racine- Mr. John J. Matera, Sr., 64, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
John was born in Racine on June 1, 1948 to the late Victor H. and Dorothy (nee: Toutant) Matera. He had formerly been employed at American Motors in Kenosha for 22years until his retirement.
John was best known for his love of pool, where he played for the Racine Billiards Leagues. He also had a love for everything Elvis, enjoyed bowling, and he was a talented artist who could draw almost anything. However, he will be best remembered by his family and friends as a jokester with a big heart and, a warm, funny personality that made him a joy for everyone to be around.
John will be dearly missed by his two children; Paulette (Benjamin LaFournier) Matera and John James Matera, Jr.; three grandchildren, Mariah, Alyjiah, and Reyanna LaFournier; four brothers and one sister, Victor D. (Annette) Matera, Ronald J. (Teril) Matera, his twin brother James J. Matera, Victoria L. (David) Hansen, and Donald M. Matera; nieces, nephews, other relatives; his former wife and good friend, Regina Reading, formerly Matera; as well as his many pool buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Dorothy.
Funeral services in honor of John will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00am until the time of service.
