John Clarence Friend Jr.'s Obituary
Sturtevant – John Clarence Friend Jr., 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.
John was born to the late John Sr. and Bertha (nee Walther) Friend on July 28, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Joyce Criplean on June 27, 1959, in Union Grove, Wisconsin. They were married for 63 years until Joyce’s passing in March of 2023.
John was a man who cherished every moment spent with his family, finding joy in their company and creating lasting memories. Known for his sociable nature, he was the life of any gathering, often entertaining friends and family with his jokes. A talented wood carver, John’s skillful hands brought intricate designs to life, showcasing his artistic flair. John was an avid outdoorsman, he found peace and adventure in hunting and fishing, embracing the tranquility of nature.
In his younger days, John was an enthusiastic participant in darts and pool leagues, demonstrating his competitive spirit and love for games. Football was another passion of his, and he was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Racine Raiders, never missing a chance to cheer them on.
John will be deeply missed by his loving daughters: Joan Jansen (Scott Murphy), Janice Billups, and Julie Scariot (Ricco); grandchildren: Melissa, Brian, Samantha, Paul Michael, Haylee, and Hunter; ten great-grandchildren; siblings: Wayne Friend (Kitty), Joyce Young, and Delores Stegemann; along with many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; and siblings: Albert Friend, Clarence Friend, Howard Friend, Robert Friend, Eileen Martin, Shirley Pratt, and Carol Gahres.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 11:30 A.M with Pastor Sheila Rawn officiating. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Private interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
