Joanne Funk's Obituary
Union Grove – Joanne C. Funk, 81, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2013.
Joanne Clare Funk was born in Racine to the late Sigvart and Margaret (nee: Costello) Simonsen on July 8, 1932. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Funk on October 6, 1951 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Racine. Together they lived and worked at the family farm in Union Grove.
Joanne was a member of St. Sebastian's Catholic Church for many years. She was a very hardworking and giving person. Joanne was devoted to her family. Her husband, children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as reading and knitting. Most of all, she enjoyed traveling, especially on annual trips to the Bahamas and Las Vegas.
Joanne will be dearly missed by her husband of 61 years, Robert ; her children, Nancy (Bob) Duthie, Carol Funk, Ronald (Denise) Funk, Bruce (Vicki) Funk and Doug (Donna) Funk; her grandchildren, Robert, Clinton (Amanda), Katherine and Elaine Funk, Nicholas Howard, Casey and Joseph Funk, Ashley Oestreich, Tyler Kesy and Cassandra Thew; her great grandchildren, Bruce Douglas and Raymond Carl Funk, and Ethan and Haiden Howard; seven sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Esther Simonsen, Joseph Funk, William Funk, Marie Guard, Ruth Field, Rose (Peter) Trecoci, Rita Barth, Leone Funk and Lawrence (Donna) Funk; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Donald Simonsen, Joyce (John) Keen, Dean Simonsen and Robert Simonsen; and three sisters-in-law and five other brothers-in-law, June Funk, Mary Funk, Orland Guard, Theresa (James) Celeste, Donald Field, Wilfred Barth and Raymond Funk.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church, 3126 – 95th Street, Sturtevant, on Wednesday morning, July 31, 2013 at 11:30 AM with Fr. Mark Jones celebrating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, July 30, 2013 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM and on Wednesday morning at the church from 11:00 AM until the 11:30 AM time of Mass.
