Joan Ellen Scully's Obituary
Joan Ellen Scully, 87, of Racine, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at The Courtyard of Sussex Memory Care facility with her daughters by her side. Joan was born on March 8, 1939, to Leo and Dora Malone in Racine, Wisconsin.
Joan was a graduate of Lutheran High School and went on to work at Western Publishing doing secretarial work. She met her husband Gerald (Jerry) Scully and they were united in marriage on October 5, 1963 in Racine. Together they shared 25 years of marriage until Jerry's passing and were blessed with three daughters (Julie, Jackie, and Jeanne) and one son (John). After years of staying home with her children, she returned to secretarial work at Robert W. Baird & Co. until her retirement.
Joan had a deep catholic faith and was a life-long member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Racine. She enjoyed playing the piano, being in a bowling league for a number of years, and taking many trips to Las Vegas with her friends to play the slots. She also loved playing bingo and rarely missed a Thursday evening bingo game at the Roma Lodge.
She is survived by her children Julie (Earl) Neibaur, Jackie (Mark) Bloomer, Jeanne (Matt) Nelson, and John Scully; her nine grandchildren Logan Neibaur, Paige (Matt) Regan, Jordyn Bloomer, Marissa Bloomer, Jake Bloomer, Mitch Nelson, Ashley Nelson, Dominic (Emily) Scully, and Katarina (David) Sandridge; three great grandchildren Blair Regan, Lincoln Sandridge, and Bennett Sandridge; her brother Dennis (Susan) Malone; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Jerry and her parents Leo and Dora Malone.
Memorials in memory of Joan can be made to St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Croix Hospice, Alzheimer's Association, or the Wisconsin Humane Society Racine Campus.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caring and compassionate workers at The Courtyard of Sussex. Thank you for all your hard work and bringing a smile to our mom's face each and every day. We also extend our sincere gratitude to her care team through St. Croix Hospice. Not only were you a God-send to our mom, but also to all of us. We cannot thank you all enough for helping us through these last few years.
A visitation will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish (6400 Spring St., Racine, WI) on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and a mass at 11:00 a.m. with a burial to follow at 12:30 p.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park (9000 Washington Ave., Racine, WI).
The family invites those who knew and loved Joan to share their condolences, memories, and stories in the guestbook of this tribute page.
Dear Mom/Grandma/GG: We will miss you deeply, but are consoled with the knowledge that you are in a better place now as you sing, dance, and play the piano again. You will live forever in our hearts and we will cherish all the memories we have shared with you. This isn't goodbye, but instead is until we meet again. We all love you so very, very much Mommas/Grandma/GG!
