James Gerald Mitchell's Obituary
RACINE – James Gerald Mitchell, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 leaving his Earthly home to spend the rest of eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
James was born to the late Olis and Mary (Nee: Staab) Mitchell in Ironton, Missouri on January 8, 1934. He had served in the United States Army as a target airplane crewman. He was married to Gloria Carolyn Binder in 1960 in Racine, Wisconsin. For thirty-two years he worked at Webster Electric as a tool grinder, retiring in 1996.
Jim was a member and usher at Calvary Memorial Church for many years. You could count on him to greet you with a warm smile, a friendly handshake, and always a piece of candy. His pride and joy was his 1967 Mustang which he fully restored and took to car shows. Jim enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing pool and a friendly game of cards. He exercised daily taking long walks with his wife enjoying God’s creation. Above all, he treasured the time spent with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria; son, David (Kimberly) Mitchell of Antioch Illinois and their children, Matthew and Jordan Fredericks, Rachel Crocher and her children, Emma and Quort; and Sarah Bender; daughter, Christine (James) Korlewitz of Rockford, Michigan and their two children, Lauren and Ryan; sister, Jane (Harold) Minter; and sister-in-law, Mary (John) Janaky. James was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; five brothers; and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at Calvary Memorial Church in Racine on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:30 AM with Pastor Nathan James officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the service time. Private inurnment with full military honors will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
