James W. Johnson's Obituary
Racine – James “Jim” W. Johnson, 78, passed away on March 10, 2016 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints.
Jim was born in Rockford, IL to the late Fritz and Mildred (NEE: Cove) Johnson on September 10, 1937. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jim was employed as a Union truck driver for 20 years with ANR Transport and 20 years with Advance Trucking. Jim was also the owner of Johnson’s Bar on Douglas Avenue for several years. He also worked as the Harbor Master for 10 years at Gaslight Pointe Marina.
Jim lived to be on the lake and fishing. He absolutely loved fishing on his boats: Just Had Too and Pegasus. Jim also was a charter fisherman on the Little Angel. Every year he would wait with great anticipation to participate in the Salmon-A-Rama. On shore, Jim raised horses and Saint Bernards for breeding shows. He especially enjoyed his own Quarter Horse.
Jim is survived by his significant other of 18 years, Pat Hallman; dear friends, Donny (Kim) Arndt, Dewey McClure, Kelli Paulich (Joe Jensen), Nicole and Brooke Paulich, and Tommy, owner of Dickie’s Bar; and many other friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Wilson Funeral Home with visitation starting at 4:00 PM. The ceremony will start at 6:00 PM with Pastor Holly Anderle officiating. Memorials to the family would be appreciated. Condolences may be made at www.wilsonfuneralhomeracine.com.
Special thanks to the staff at the 3rd floor Cardiac ICU for their compassionate and special care and support of Jim.
