James George Sorensen's Obituary
Racine- James George Sorensen, 87, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012 in the loving care of Eldcare Services in Racine.
He was born in Racine, WI on April 9, 1925 to Einer and Anna (Lachnit) Sorensen. He lived most of his life in the family home built by his Danish grandfather who settled in Racine. Jim graduated from Washington Park High School in 1943. He served his country proudly as a U.S. Marine in the South Pacific returning to Racine in 1946. Jim was a retiree from J.I. Case after 30 years as a cost accountant. After his retirement, Jim became an avid runner. He entered and placed in many runs around the State of WI. He was always quietly proudest of his accomplishments in the Racine Lighthouse Run, winning in his age group several times and last competing and placing in his age group at 77 years old.
Surviving are Jim's dear sisters, Mary Ann Sucharda of Racine, Elizabeth Johnston of Green Bay and step-sister, Myrtle Briggs of Dowling, MI. He will always affectionately be known as "Uncle" to nieces, Mary Krohn (Thomas) of Racine, Terry Sucharda Webb (Jerry) of Waukesha, Julie Joppe (Norm) of Green Bay and Tim Johnston (Cheri) of Oconto Falls. Jim is also survived by great nieces and nephew, Nicole VanEgren (Tim) of Green Bay, Daniel Joppe (Shelly) of DePere, Kristen Burkard ( Chris) of Chili and Joe Johnston of Oconto Falls. His quiet presence and smile will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Evelyn Sorensen, and niece, Jamie Johnston.
A private celebration of his life with military honors is planned.
