Herbert O. Larson's Obituary
UNION GROVE – Herbert O. Larson, 86, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday night, March 28, 2017, at Ascension Medical Center in Racine. He was born in Jackson, Minnesota on August 22, 1930 to the late Olaf Nels Larson and Hilda Oline Hanson and he lived in Racine County area since 1956. In Baltimore, Md. on February 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lois A. Brown.
He loved spending time with his grandsons David and Mark Magruder and never faced a mechanical challenge he couldn’t solve with patience, a little elbow grease, and a keen ingenuity that most men would envy. If he didn’t have the right tool, he made it. During his career as a Process and Development Engineer, he fashioned an early prototype that later became the now famous “Jaws of Life.” He worked for Walker Manufacturing, Deluxe Tool and launched his own company, Larsco, late in his career.
He will be remembered as kind hearted and soft spoken. He was a humble man that made friends easily.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in October, 1955.
He is survived by his children, Paulette (Jim) Conerton of Port Charlotte, Florida, Karen (Jim) Magruder of Racine, and Angela Larson of Union Grove; two grandsons, David (Veronika) Magruder and Mark (Natalie) Magruder; three sisters, Arlene Ott, Dori Petersen, and Marlys Larson of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Gladie (Logan) Potter, Amanda Schottle, Olive Still, Eunice Larson and four brothers; Truman (Violet), Arnie, Larry, and Verlen (Phyllis) Larson.
Funeral services will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Avenue on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. David Dryer officiating. Friends and family may visit from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday before the service. Interment will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel at 2:00 p.m.
