Racine – Helen L. Heck, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 14, 2012.
Helen was born in Racine to the late Victor and Ruth (nee: Perham) Heck on October 15, 1918. She was the youngest of the five children and lived in Racine all her life.
Helen was an active member of Calvary Memorial Church, formerly Gospel Tabernacle. She and her family began attending when she was 6 years old. In the Heck home, there were no debates as to if we were to go to Sunday school and church regularly. Helen as a member of Calvary Memorial Church has served as Sunday school teacher, choir member and Deaconess. She was a Librarian at Gospel Tabernacle and later at Calvary's new building. Helen was a part of the Lend-a-Hand Ministry, Calvary Missionary Society and more recently with Helping Hands.
Helen's education began at Knapp Elementary School, McKinley Junior High School and Washington Park High School. She attended Stout Institute (University of Wisconsin – Stout) in Menomonie. She graduated with a BS in Home Economics Education. After teaching for two years, she became a Therapeutic Dietitian as St. Luke's Hospital and later St. Mary's Hospital. Helen's hobbies were gardening until the age of 93, knitting and sewing. She also enjoyed vacationing in 9 Canadian provinces, many U.S. States, The Holy Land twice, Spain, Morocco and Alaska twice.
Helen is survived by niece, Johnna (David) Morton and their children, Jennifer (Jay) MacPherson and Amy Yeager; nephew, Edward V. (Judy) Heck; Cousins, Geraldine Floyd, Laura Jane Hill, Rev. Barry (Ruby) Shaw, Kathy (Jim) Kallenbock, Susan Lagerlaef, Marjorie (Harold) Hargett, Diana (Arthur) Bohm; friends at Friendship Village, Schaumburg, IL; and many close friends at Calvary Memorial Church. She was preceded in death three by brothers, Victor Albert Heck, John Perham Heck and Frank Hopkins Heck; sister, Alice E. Heck; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Lee Marshall and Edna Drill Heck.
Funeral services in honor of Miss Heck will be held at Calvary Memorial Church on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 11am with Rev. Nathan James officiating. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday evening, January 16, 2012 from 5 until 7pm and at the church from 10am until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Calvary Memorial Church.
