Hasnat Shittu's Obituary
Racine - Hasnat S. Shittu, 18, passed away at the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois on November 21, 2007 after a five year battle with a rare brain tumor.
Hasnat Sarryat Shittu was born to Mufutau A. and Gilba C. (nee: Cacho) Shittu in Evanston, Illinois on December 12, 1988. She and her family had lived in Racine since 1994.
Hasnat graduated from J.I. Case High School as a four-year honor roll student in spite of her disease and frequent visits to the hospital. Her studies were self-taught with the help of her home bound teacher. She was attending Carthage College as a freshman studying computer science.
Hasnat was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph's Nursing Home. She also attended the One Step at a Time Summer Camp.
Hasnat is survived by her parents, Mufutau and Gilba Shittu; her brother, Moe Shittu; a nephew, Mikell Shittu all of Racine; her paternal grandparents, Moshood (Aminat) Shittu of Nigeria, West Africa; her aunts and uncles, Tai (Juliet) Asani of Racine and Toyin (Allison) Shittu of Chicago, Illinois; and other relatives and friends, especially her best friend, Sarah who was by Hasnat's side throughout her illness. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Servillano (Conrada) Cacho.
Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio Street, on Monday morning, November 26, 2007 at 10 am. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends my meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday evening, November 25, 2007 from 3 until 6 pm and for visitation at the church on Monday morning from 9 am until service time. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
