My sincere condolences. Gus truly was one of a kind. I met him through my friend Augie. Another paralyzed veteran. We traveled many times to D.C. together as well as the wheelchair games. My heart broke when I heard the tragic news. 💔

Gus was one of the finest men I ever met, being a tunnel rat was one of the most dangerous and craziest duties to serve in during the Vietnam War. Receiving a silver star is one of the greatest honors one can receive in the military. Gus never talked about it due to the great life of humility he lived by and exemplified! Rest In Peace Gus and I hope others will learn and emulate the selfless service to others you both lived by and demonstrated!
Gus was one of PVA's best Government Relations Directors, a tireless advocate for people with disabilities and a fellow with a quirky sense of humor who was a delight to work with. We could always count on Gus when we needed his voice on legislation vital to people and veterans with disabilities. A few years ago, I was honored when Gus gave me one of his Tunnel Rat commemorative medallions [as this article explains, Tunnel Rats were the guys in Vietnam who did the dangerous and dirty work of trying to weed out the Vietcong from the system of tunnels they built underground.] Gus got the Silver Star for his service, came home from the military unscathed, then was injured in a crash just weeks after discharge from the Army. For years, he was my go-to example of why our non-service-connected disabled veterans need our support. I will miss him. Rest in power, Gus. Susan Prokop, PVA National Advocacy Director
Gus and I had lots of talks about his beloved "cubbies" and though we had lots of good times at the Wheelchair games we always came back to the special deli in Salt Lake City that had the fantastic German food. Will miss Gus, and good friend and a very good person
