Gordon Lee Davidson's Obituary
Gordon Lee Davidson, age 102, passed away on January 16, 2017 at his residence at Silver Lake Manor in Wautoma, WI.
Gordon was born in Racine, WI on December 28, 1914 to Edward and Pearl (nee Rondeau) Davidson. He was educated in area schools, graduating from Horlick High School.
In his youth, Gordon had a strong interest in broadcasting. He was a ham radio operator, and would do odd jobs to help fund his hobby. His hobby turned to employment when he became an engineer at Station WRJN in Racine, oftentimes building whatever equipment was needed. During World War II, he also taught radio theory at a technical school in Racine. Gordon began working as part of the engineering staff of WTMJ in Milwaukee in 1942 where he worked for 36 and a half years, retiring in 1980.
Gordon was also interested in flying, and had his pilot license and his own plane. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club (ARRL) for over 40 years, with his ham radio call letters being W9IZM. Gordon also enjoyed fishing.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Allan (Patricia) Davidson of Sussex, Donald Davidson of Austin, MN, Timothy (Sharon) Davidson of Baraboo, William (Mary) Davidson of Milwaukee, Jonathan (Sandy) Davidson of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Robert (Mary) Davidson of Union Grove, twin daughters Faith and Hope Davidson of Union Grove and his brother, Guyan “Raymond” (Carol) Davidson of Racine. Gordon is further survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews too numerous to list.
Gordon was preceded in death by his sister, LaVerne “Sis” Brodsko; his brother, Richard M. Davidson; his former wife and mother of his children, Dorothy (nee Dimmock) Davidson; daughters-in-law Dodie (nee Lightly) Davidson and Kathy (nee Hoover) Davidson, and great-granddaughter, Katelyn Davidson.
A graveside service for Gordon will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at the West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel with Rev. Frank Williams presiding. Memorials may be directed to Shepherds Ministries in Union Grove, WI.
