Gladys C. Zemke
RACINE-- Gladys C. Zemke (nee: Anderson), 76, of Weirsdale, Florida passed away on her birthday after a lengthy illness at WFHC Hospice in Racine, Wisconsin. She was born on September 27, 1938, at home in Raymond Township, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Martin and Lydia (nee: Hellier) Anderson. She was united in marriage to Rinehart E. Zemke on April 18, 1959, at Raymond Baptist Church, in Raymond Township.
Mrs. Zemke taught accordion and worked at Western Publishing, Johnson Wax, Nestle, and G & S Citrus Packing Plant, among others. Mrs. Zemke was a former member of Union Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are her nine children, Debra (Kent) Lewis of Mt. Pleasant, Dean (Susan) Zemke of Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan, Andrew Zemke of Orlando, Florida, Andrea (Michael) Buhler of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Rodney Zemke of Racine, Wisconsin, Renita (Stephen) Watkins of Morriston, Florida, Glen (Aimeé) Zemke of Heiskell, Tennessee, Gail (Charles) Flancher of Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin, and Valeri (David) Darden of Ocala, Florida; seventeen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Eugene (Delores) of La Crosse, Wisconsin, LeRoy Zemke of Racine, Wisconsin, Carl Zemke of Brooksville, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Woodrum of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Andrea (Homer) Jorgensen of Oxford, Wisconsin, and Betty Frimml of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Rinehart Zemke; her parents, Martin and Lydia Anderson; her father and mother-in-law, Herman and Gerda Zemke; her sister, Audrey Huggins; her brothers-in-law, William Zemke, Junior Lenox, Jim Woodrum, and Jim Frimml; and sisters-in-law, Judith Zemke and Karen Zemke preceded Mrs. Zemke in death. The family has hearts of gratitude to Valeri and David for caring for mom in their home for six years and to Marion County (FL) Hospice for tending to mom’s needs for the last several months.
Visitation will be held on October 1, 2014 from 9 until 11 a.m. at Calvary Memorial Church, 4001 Washington Avenue, Racine, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 11 a.m. at the church, with her son, Rev. Dean Zemke officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
