Gitte Alice Stupar's Obituary
Racine – Sadly, Gitte Alice Stupar at the age of 77, passed away at her home on March 14, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Gitte was born on January 1, 1948, in Copenhagen, Denmark, as a New Year’s baby to Alf and Edel (nee Madsen) Martinsen. Her family later moved to Racine, where she graduated from William Horlick High School.
On May 3, 1969, Gitte married Steven C. Stupar at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Racine. Their marriage was a deep bond of love and commitment that lasted for over five decades. A special surprise came their way on Christmas in 1969 when they were unexpectedly blessed with twin daughters, Lisa and Laura. Later, they were also blessed with a son, Steven. Gitte devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her children, cherishing every moment of their childhood and beyond, nurturing them with love and care throughout the years.
Gitte also found immeasurable joy in spending time with her grandchildren, and they were a source of great happiness in her life. Gitte adored watching them grow, always eager to share her love, wisdom, and warmth with them, and she cherished every memory made with her beloved grandchildren.
Gitte dedicated over 30 years of her life to working at St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she served as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her passion for helping others shone through in her care for her patients, who often became like family to her. Her deep empathy and commitment to providing comfort made her an invaluable member of the medical team. After three decades of service, Gitte retired in 2008, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassionate care.
A devoted member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Gitte’s faith was a guiding force in her life. She found strength and support in her spiritual journey. She was known for her kind spirit and her ability to connect with others, whether in church or in the community.
In her free time, Gitte enjoyed many hobbies and activities that brought joy to her and those around her. She loved playing Bingo and exercised regularly at the Sienna Center, prioritizing her health and well-being. Crafting and sewing were also among her passions, and she spent many hours creating beautiful handmade items. Shopping with family and friends was another favorite pastime.
Travel was a cherished part of Gitte’s life. She made several trips to her native Denmark, which held a special place in her heart. She also enjoyed exploring other parts of the United States, including Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Florida, and Nashville, TN. Whether near or far, Gitte loved creating lasting memories.
Gitte will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Steven Stupar; children, Lisa Stupar (Karl Friedrich), Laura Stupar, and Steven Stupar; grandchildren, Karl Friedrich, and Heather Friedrich; sister, Lene Madsen; sister-in-law, Lori Martinsen; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Gitte was preceded in death by her parents, Alf and Edel Martinsen; and her brother, Jens Martinsen.
In keeping with Gitte’s wishes, a private memorial service was held to celebrate her life and the legacy she leaves behind.
