Gilbert Leonard Yohn's Obituary
RACINE—Gilbert L. Yohn, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Ridgewood Nursing Home.
Gilbert was born to the late Leonard Yohn and Irene (nee: Hintz) on August 7, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI. He was united in marriage to Willene Carol Rice on June 30, 1951 at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Racine. He owned and ran Gil’s Union 76 for many years. Gilbert was also a mechanic on Norm Nelson’s race team. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church for many years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He was a carpenter at heart and loved to make beautiful heirlooms for his family and friends.
Surviving are his son, Scott (Trudy) Yohn; two daughters, Gail (Gary) McCauley and Dawn (Jeff) Loken; special foster son, Eddie (Vilma) Zuniga and their family; nine grandchildren, Jason (Amberlyn), Nicole (D.J.), Heather, Tarah (Bryan), Krystal (Kevin), Jerrod (Dana), Brandon (Mara), David, and Craig; sixteen great-grandchildren: Scott, Nicholas, Cameron, Ethan, Paige, Hunter, Alyssa, Tanner, Alyson, Brooklynn, Lucy, Emmitt, Kaia, Gavin, Baylee, and Brayden; sisters-in-law, Bridget (Dick) Mumaw and Judith Rice; and cousin-in-law, Gloria (Wally) Bowman.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Willene Yohn; father, Leonard Yohn; mother, Irene Yohn; sister, Joyce Hanson; four brothers-in-law, Ronald and Dennis Rice, Ken Hanson, Pug Olson; sister-in-law, Donna Olson; great-grandson, Jordan Beal; and relatives and friends too numerous to name.
Private funeral services for Gilbert will be held by the family, with burial at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Research Fund. Condolences for the family may be expressed at www.wilsonfuneralhomeracine.com.
