Frances D. Cantu's Obituary
Frances D.(nee Delazerda) Cantu, 85, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at her residence.
Frances was born in Poth, TX on March 13, 1931 to the late Juan and Cruz (nee Garcia) Delazerda. In May of 1962, she was united in marriage to Genaro F. Cantu, Sr. Genaro passed away on April 11, 2013.
Frances was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was great mother, with a kind and compassionate heart. Frances was always willing to help others, offering her home as a place to stay to those in need. She was a wonderful cook, as was best known for her flour tortillas, enchiladas, and cornbread stuffing. Frances enjoyed gardening and took classes in floral design. She was a great seamstress and florist, and she created and made the dresses for Hilda’s quinceanera. Frances liked to collect dolphins. Most importantly, Francis loved her family, especially her grandchildren, even raising them as her own.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Janie (Tony) Flores of Somerset, TX, Anita D. Herrera of San Antonio, TX, Jesse D. Herrera of San Antonio, TX, Genaro D. (Dora) Cantu Jr. of Racine, Tracy M. (Hector) Hernandez of Racine, Armando Gonzales of San Antonio, TX, Hilda Herrera of San Antonio, TX, and Ruby (David) Fuentes of Middlebury, IN; 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren—with 2 on the way; 14 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her three brothers: Gabino, Simon, and Macario Delazerda.
A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Frances will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church (1100 Erie Street, Racine). Relatives and friends may meet the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
