Eunice Jeannette Hecht's Obituary
Racine – Eunice Jeannette Hecht, 90 passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Hospital.
Eunice was born in Racine to Louis Hartig and Annetta (Jensen) Hartig on July 13, 1923. Eunice served in the U.S. Army as a medical assistant on the West Coast during World War II. She married Raymond W. Hecht on October 29, 1949 in Racine. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, where she worked as a checker for Piggly-Wiggly on Taylor Ave. and then at the West Racine store on Grove Avenue. She retired from the Grove Avenue store after 22 years. She also volunteered for Lutheran High School, helping out at banquets, other events and the thrift shop. Eunie was an avid Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs fan as well.
Eunie was a selfless person who loved people and ran into someone she knew everywhere she went. She loved her family deeply, especially her great-grandchildren, whom she referred to as her “little chickens.” She enjoyed baking for friends and family. She could often be found dropping off a loaf of homemade bread to a friend or relative on her way to work.
Eunie is survived by her son, Kenneth R. Hecht of Racine, daughter, Kathryn Smith of West Allis, grandsons; Adam (Selena) Smith, Royal Palm Beach, FL., Matthew Smith of Glendale, WI., Daniel Hecht of AZ., Andrew (Dee Warmath) Smith of Pewaukee, WI, Justin (Chanelle) Cherington of Gilbert, AZ.
She is further survived by fourteen great-grandkids, twenty-one nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews, also by two sisters-in-law, Lee Cates of Fresno, CA and Shirley Hecht of Des Plaines, IL.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Annetta Hartig, her husband, Raymond Hecht, one daughter, Beverly R. Hecht, Daughter-in-law, Debra Hecht, eight sisters and brothers; Dolores and Milton Mogren, George Lewis and Gertrude Hartig, Charles Clifford and Ann Hartig, Irma and Louis Anderson, June and Tony Kraemer, Roy and Emily Hartig, Dorothy and Clifford Skovsted, Harry and Betty Hartig, and one brother-in-law, Orville Hecht.
There will be a funeral service for Eunice at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3700 Washington Ave. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9:00 am until the service time.
Visitation will be at Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
