Erna Kirkegaard Brusko's Obituary
Erna Eleanor Kirkegaard Brusko went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 19, 2011. She was born to her loving parents Eleanor and Peder Kirkegaard on May 12, 1919.
She lived in Racine all of her life and attended Jefferson, McKinley, and Park High School. After graduation, she studied at Dana College in Blair, Neb. She returned home to marry her high school sweetheart Paul D. Brusko on June 27, 1942. For 56 years he called her "Sweet" and she called him "Darling". Together God gave them many wonderful opportunities to serve Him. They were thankful for their daughter, Cynthia Kirkegaard Brusko Black.
Erna's desire was that God and the teaching of His Word be made known. Because of this, for many years she was involved in many ministries: teaching Sunday School, AWANA, Vacation Bible School, Good News Clubs, Gideons Auxiliary, prison ministry, Institute in Basic Life Principles, and Bible Study Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, Peder and Eleanor, her sisters and her brother, Cecilia (Al) Matsen, Maja Viola (Max) Zietlow, Paul (Kathryn) Kirkegaard, and Ruby (Kermit) Hansen, her niece, Jeanine (Zietlow) Rich, and her great-nephew, Christian Philip Skoglund.
She is survived by her loving family which includes her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Ken Black and her precious grandchildren, Nathan (Veronica) Black, Alissa (Isaac) Miller, and Amy (Andrew) Papillon, and her sweet great-grandchildren, Hudson Paul Christian Miller, Josiah Paul Black, Lydia Eleanor Miller, and expected baby Papillon and baby Black. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Brusko and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Olga Brusko.
A service celebrating God's faithfulness will be held at Racine Bible Church (12505 Spring St.) on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 4 pm. Fellowship with the family will follow after the service. Private interment for the family will be at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Child Evangelism Fellowship, Gideons International, or Racine Bible Church would be appreciated.
